Beep Test

For my beep test I got 8. I really think I did good on it because in the past I would usually get 6 or 6.3. So to me my fitness is increasing and I am really proud that I am pushing myself so much.

Final Blog





For my final blog, I want to say how much this class got me to feel more comfortable working out different parts of my body in healthy and different ways. I learned so much, for example pacing my breath and speed while running, how to modify an exercise if it is too difficult for me, and how to have fun. Overall this class was great as we did so many different workouts like yoga, I never really thought yoga could be fun and I didn't know how many muscles you can stretch by just doing a simple move and I think I deserve a 91% in this class.


1)For participation, I attend every class I may be a couple minutes late. Everyday I am prepared and bring p.e strip, my intensity of some games are not always to my highest ability because I am either tired or sore from the last workout we would do, otherwise I am always bringing high intensity and wanting to go outside and do yoga or go for a walk or run. My motivation behind choice days is I like to either do volleyball because its a good sport and everyone is enjoying themselves and has a part in the game or badminton. 24/25


2) For social responsibility and contribution to the class, I did once help organize a group of grade 8's when they didn't know how to form themselves to play volleyball, and for encouraging peers I do that a lot too by saying good job and nice work or by saying come on a little further. Also I have helped put away the equipment sometimes when there are equipment needed to be put away or someone hasn't done so already. I have been completely honest on fitness scores because I think its important to not lie to yourself on what your fitness is at and I do many home workouts and go for jogs here and there. 23/25


3) For Healthy Living, in the past I did a few healthy things such as in the summer I would wake up at 6 and go for an hour run in the mornings 3 times a week, as well as eat healthy like salads and veggies, however I did have occasional unhealthy food. Currently I am thinking of the things I am eating and doing the best I can in our class to workout and tone myself. I do many home workouts such as abs. For the future I want to do what I did in the past summer, the jogs in the morning however maybe do it in the morning and evening instead of just the morning and I also want to start watching the food I am eating for example how much sodium is in the food and if I really want my body to ingest it. My fitness scores taught me so much, that if you work hard you can get to where you want you just need to want it bad enough because in the past I use to only get 6 on the beep test but as we did the beep test not long ago, I got an 8 and I was proud of myself. Some limitations/ barriers are doing exercises with my upper body such as push ups because my strength is more focused on my lower body instead of my upper body so it is more easier for me to do squats then to do push ups.  24/25


4) For my digital portfolio and reflective skills, I haven't posted a lot of evidence on my digital portfolio because I don't regularly bring my ipod to class because I am more focused on doing the workout and I don't want to worry about losing it or having no where to put my ipod while going for a run or doing the workout we need to do. I have many posts in my blog because it helps me keep track of how I am doing with my health and fitness and I have explained myself very well in my evidence for my blog posts and they're in a lot of detail. I have learned so much from doing blogs and I learned so many new ways to do workouts that are modified to help me as well as I have cited a lot of videos from my favorite workouts. 20/25

Badminton Outside

We played a game of Badminton outside with cool green rackets and the birds were either yellow or orange, we chose the yellow birdies cause they are more faster in the air. Anyways Jusleen, Erika, Sukhman and I we formed a group and we played badminton however the wind kept going different directions we decided to split into two groups, so one on one. The wind still made the game difficult to play but we managed. Then the game changed into softball. I enjoyed the badminton better because there was more running around and it was harder.

Lower field

Today we did a run workout around the lower field for about 45 minutes. We walk for the first 5 mins and then we jogged for 3 mins and it alternated. I like this workout because it really shows what you can do and what you need to improve on . I got 5 or 6 laps because I lost track, I did try but I don't put a lot of my effort into it.

Relay Poker

Tuesday fitness we did relay poker it was confusing at first but I thought it was fun and hard because people won so fast it wasn't fair. But I put a lot of energy and effort into the workouts and I went as fast as I could until my knee became sore then I didn't try so hard. 

Mud Bay

My family and I went to Mud Bay on Sunday and we went for a long walk and walked on the sand because the ocean was so far out it was really pretty. The walk was really nice too because we were reading all the signs they had about birds and coyotes. 
My mom got pretty mad though because I jumped into the puddles and I got a lot of mud on my shoes but they look pretty clean here :)

Circuit at Goldstone

monday we did a circuit at goldstone I thought that the circuit was pretty cool and different because the time it takes the people to run is how long you did that exercise for so it was different and fun. I don't like how hot it was though so I didn't put all my effort into the workouts 

Relays

Erika, Jusleen, Paris and I did relays a couple weeks ago and I say I did pretty good because in pushed myself to the best I could and when it was my turn to go around the duck pond I paced my breathing and jogged lightly to make sure that I could finish the relay still jogging

The Long Weekend

Over the Long Weekend, I did some workouts because I want my fitness to increase so I decided to do the workout that me and Erika made, however I did add some so its not the original workout. First you start off with being on all fours and kicking out and pulling your right leg inward to your stomach 20 times and then switch legs. Like the image below, you then have your right leg or left leg which ever you prefer up in the air and lift your leg up about 10 times, and then switch.



 After you bring your leg that you started on again, and have it completely straight and wave it up and down for another 15 times and switch. You are done now with being on all fours. Now you go into abs and do 20 crunches or situps, after you are done you then bring your right leg and have your right ankle on your left leg and crunch your left side to your right knee and then switch so your right side to your left knee, you do that about 15 times on each side. Then you do the bicycle about 15 times. Then you have both your legs in the air together and do about 10 crunches.  Many of the ab workouts I learned are from this video below and I usually do all of them because its a great 5 minute ab workout. Right after these I turn to my left side and do about 15 side crunches and then do the other side like the second video link below. After I am done the ab workouts I go into lunges to strengthen my legs so I do 10 on each leg and then squats about 20 and then we do arm workouts and there mainly with the weights but there are some workouts without them like push ups and planks.

Dance Week

For Dance week, we did Jazz, Line dancing, Bhangra, and Hip Hop.  My favorite was the Line dancing because it is simple and the moves are the exact same as they were last year and the songs were somewhat the same as I remember like, "Man, I feel like a woman" by Shania Twain. I like the Jazz routine because it was very different and it did get a little confusing at times but it was pretty simple. I liked the Bhangra song for the first dance cause it was a remix with Maroon 5 but the dance moves were very hard to follow with all the hand movements. I liked the Hip Hop a little bit because I got the beginning but then I got lost with the rest of the moves and I didn't really like the song. I enjoyed the whole week and I wish we could do every second week like that cause its a lot of fun.

THE BASICS:


I have not missed any classes this semester. I didn't not fully participate in three of the classes this semester because I was either sore from the day before or I didn't put enough energy into the activities we were doing for example the game day we had in the small gym where we played dodge ball.  I have always brought my gym strip and worn it to every class too. The above basics for get fit for this semester has affected my ability to participate in a positive way because I give mainly all my effort and I always bring a positive attitude to class.


BLOGS:


I have written 9 blogs for through this semester so far.  My blogs are very thoughtful because I write about myself but I also write about what we did in the class and what I enjoy about the time and what I didn't enjoy so much. I also write about other activities that we could try with links. There are no pictures for blogs but there are 2 videos from YouTube. Writing blogs has made me realize what I need to improve on and what my strength is in this class because writing about how you are in the class really shows you what you are like.


PARTICPATION:


I would rate my participation in the class a very high number because I do put a lot of energy and work into this class. However there were three days that I didn't I still did participate just not the best I could and I know that I could've put more effort into those days. I have put more participation into those days when we do fitness as a group because I feel more motivated and with the more people around I feel like there's a lot more support so I participate to my very best! I am very proud of the community run because when we came back our time was 21 mins and I feel that is really good since I took three walking moments and I tried my very best by pacing myself as I jog. I could improve by participating more with equipment or helping support the class.


OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS:


I bring positive energy to the class everyday. I am contributing to the class with being positive so other people can have a smile even if they had a bad day.

Yoga

   Tuesday, March 24/ 2015


Yesterday we did Yoga for fitness. Every class did it together as a large group in the large gym, and I found it to be a lot of fun because I like doing things with the other classes. I find it to be really motivating and it gives me more energy when I'm doing it with other people. I put in a lot of effort yesterday because I really want to become fit and stay healthy. You could tell that I put in a lot effort and work into fitness yesterday because my face was bright red and today I am very sore in my thighs and my back. I enjoyed Yoga for fitness yesterday because I am pretty sure that we did that same video last time we did Yoga, therefore it was familiar and easy. I hope that in the future we do more group fitnesses.

Spring Break

  During Spring Break, I did some fitness activities by doing Erika's and I's weight room workout three times and I went for runs in the morning around city hall, down to Goldstone and then down the highway where it would lead back to my house. I also ate quite healthy during the spring break with some exceptions but for the most part I ate healthy for example I had many salads and fruits. I love fruit. When I went to Nanaimo, on the island, my friend and I decided to go for a walk around downtown and then we went for a 3 and a half hour walk just to explore the different stores etc.

Zumba

March 06/2015

Today we did Zumba for fitness, it was alright. I didn't as much as I could because I am sore and I didn't really know how to do the moves. I felt like the video was too fast. I know next time I will try more and put more effort into the fitness activity that we are doing but when we do Zumba I hope we could do a slower video where it takes you step by step on how to do the dance like a video from Julianne Hough has because its still a work out and a dance but it isn't like zumba it's more slow. I feel if we did something like this I would feel more motivated to try because then I know how and what the steps of the dance are and these videos are long enough for the class as well.

Workout Room

March 2-6/2015

For this week we were in the weight room. I like going to the weight room because Erika and I have our own workout that we do in there that we have had since last year. I like using the machinery in the weight room and I love using the weights because you don't really get to use them that often unless you go to the gym. I felt that this week really made me sore and use muscles that I haven't or barley used. I really enjoyed this experience because I learned about different ways to work out other parts of my body. I did think that a week was too long though for the weight room because I was sore and didn't feel like running up and down the stairs, or lifting weights. However, I did manage to overcome my soreness and I am excited for when we get to be in the weight room again.

45 Seconds in The Middle

Today we did 45 Seconds in the Middle for fitness, and I really enjoyed it because a group of  3 or 4 people had to go in the middle and do 45 seconds of a work out and then everyone joined in after. I really liked this because everyone had to go in the middle at least once and that made me have more confidence because I don't like being in front of a lot of people and trying to talk or do something like we did but it made me feel more comfortable that everyone had to at least try. I felt good after we did this workout because I was very sore which means that I put a lot of effort and I know I'm making it faster to my goal for this semester.

Community Run

   February 27/2015

We did the Community Run for Fitness, and I love the community run because I feel more motivated to participate and give all my effort because when i'm doing the community run we are going around the community and sometimes we take roots that I don't know. Therefore, I like seeing the different houses and neighborhoods we run through. I love the community run also because at the end they give you a time and it makes me more motivated to try because I want to lower that time. Today I got 21 minutes and I felt really good about it because I was tired and out of breath and my face showed all my effort because I was beat red. I did take three stops where I just walked for a couple seconds or to a certain place for example a fire hydrant and then would start jogging again, but I feel like next time I want to try and only take one stop. Next time we do the community run my goal is to get 15-17.

25 Minute Run

It's Tuesday, February 24/2015 and for fitness all the p.e classes in period 2 did the 25 minute run, however it was different then the last 25 minute runs we have done in the past because every class was doing its own thing. Which I liked because you don't know what the other people are doing so you're really just focused on yourself, your pace, and your goal. I found that this was a good way to get to know what I need to improve on in this class, like what my weaknesses are. At the beginning of the class, Erika, Jusleen, and I had a plan to slowly jog 2 and a half laps and walk the other half (the rest). It was going good because when we had finished doing that one set it had been 10 minutes. However it ended up slowing down, for example we would run half and walk half and towards the end we ran one lap and walked half way. So it was a bit hard in the beginning and then it dropped a lot and began to pick up. I learned that I need to work on my breathing more when I'm running because I wasn't tired when we had finished, my chest began to hurt and my right ribcage and that was it. I also need to improve on my pace where I can last a long time running because that hasn't always been my strength. I use to do track and field but I would only do the 100m, 200m, and sometimes the 400m where you run as fast as you could for a short distance, so I would like to work on learning to control my breathing and pacing where I could last longer running.

The Past Week

         In the past week of Get Fit, I've had a lot of experience getting to know what kinds of work outs my body can handle and which I can't. For example, today we did Pyramid Workout where you have a certain amount of workouts and you run to center and count down, however I did every workout and I didn't quit after 45 mins, however I did start to slow myself down because I started to feel the heat on my face burn and I began to see things very bright, therefore I felt like I was going to faint. I slowed myself down, and I began to walk to and from the center a couple times and I would take a couple second breaks so I could get enough energy and slow down my heart rate so I could finish the rest of my workouts. The workouts that I found that were more difficult were the burpees and the shoulder press. Mainly because I didn't know if I was doing them correctly and I was so sore from the past couple days.

        Yesterday we had Zumba, which I thought was okay because it was fast and you couldn't sometimes see clearly if you were doing it right or not. I liked that the instructor did many different styles of dancing like mambo and belly dancing it was fun. I was sort of disappointed that we didn't go outside for the pond run or community run because it was really nice out and sunny, but we ended up going outside for a walk after Zumba. Which I liked because it helped my cool down a lot. I like Zumba because I really like the different dances that the instructors do and how it workouts out so many different parts of your body at the same time and you don't really notice it. Sometimes I do Zumba at home or I do somewhat Zumba, like I'll find some videos on YouTube that are dancing workout videos and there fun because I love to dance and its a great workout.

      On Tuesday, Feb 17 we did Locomotion in the parking lot because it was so warm and sunny outside, which I really enjoyed because all the classes joined together and it was a lot of fun because it gave me a lot of motivation to go as far as I could with my workout and there was music and it was just amazing. I hope we can combine all the classes more throughout the semester for some fitness classes because I think it will be good to have some fitness classes as just our class but for a change maybe do all the classes together again. When we did Locomotion, I made sure that I put all my effort into this fitness because it was pretty much our first day of physical activity where we combined literally everything from squats to sprinting. I did lose my form a bit but I brought it back up pretty quick because I was with my friends so I had a lot of motivation.

   
     On Monday, Feb 16 we played games, and I wasn't really into it because I don't really like dodge ball or the reaction games, however I did participate and I gave my best effort and positive attitude to give other people a positive attitude as well.

  
   On Friday, Feb 13 we did Yoga. I really liked doing Yoga because I loved learning all the different types of stretches you can do and what muscle they can be used for. I felt so good doing the Yoga because It was a great workout when it just felt like stretching and I really enjoyed that except for how sore I was the next day. I also enjoyed doing the relaxing yoga because I really felt my muscles just lose all the tension and it was amazing how I felt like I was sleeping but I was still awake, however I did almost fall asleep because I was so tired and the music was so soft. I had a great time doing Yoga and I hope we do more of it because it really does work you out in a different way that other work outs do.

Get Fit

You:  Tell me about yourself - What are you interested in?  What do you like to do?  What would you like me to know about you?


About myself,  I am a grade eleven student and I am very outgoing as well as energetic.  I love animals and I am very social. I love hanging out with friends and I love spending time with my family. I love watching movies, for example Disney, Horror, Action, Romantic Comedy etc. I am interested in camping, hiking, swimming, canoeing, horseback riding and playing some sports. I love to go to the beach in the summer and hang out with my friends and have bbq's as well as going to Alberta, and Kelowna to visit some family. I love mythological ideas and I love to read about them, therefore I read many fantasy books in the summer. I am a very positive person and I care a lot about my friends and family. I like to do road trips to random places if there far or not and just look at the scenery. I have four cats and one rabbit and they mean the world to me. In my family we each have a cat and the rabbit is for the family. Our rabbits name is Bugs Bunny, however he is a black bunny. I use to have a 2 dogs but he got sick so we had to give him to my Aunty to take care of and my other dog had to be put down, I miss her a lot. I have a younger sister and one older brother.



Us: Why did you take Get Fit?  What are you hoping to get out of the course?  Do you have any fitness goals?  What can you contribute to the class?

I took Get Fit because I wanted to stay fit during this year since I have a lot of hard courses and I wanted to stay physically active.  Also I took Get Fit because I thought it would be a fun and different course that would be interesting. I really want about what my body can do and how to eat healthier also I want different experiences with different activities we do like if we do fencing or swimming I want to learn some moves or different moves we could do. I am hoping to work myself out and get myself in shape again since I am no longer fit, therefore I am wanting to get a fun experience in this class and get my fitness back at the same time. I have a couple fitness goals to be able to get abs and to be able to run longer and faster and to work my arms out more. I can contribute positive attitude everyday and always try my best in the class and get along and be friends with everyone also.
